WRITING FROM HOME

Month of January 2010HEADLINE #1: I finished writing a spec script for a feature-length motion picture on December 15th and registered it with the WGA as an "Untitled Surf Movie"
September 2009
HEADLINE #2:I wrote a one-hour television procedural script designed for the Fox show, "House MD" but I also wrote a generic version.  It's my true story battling cancer.

This back-only photo was taken in March 2009 while recovering from my near-death experience with eosinophilic leukemia.    To all the doctors, family members, friends and colleagues who prayed for me during this horrible time, THANK YOU. Your prayers worked.

On Aug. 5, 2009, my oncologist said I no longer suffer from eosinophilic leukemia but he continues to monitor me. My next check up is Nov. 6, 2009.

Doctors predict it could take two years before my body returns to normal. Currently, I'm receiving Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs to strengthen my immune system and speed up the healing process.
I am lucky to be alive, and grateful to my loving husband, Tom, who stood by my side throughout this entire medical ordeal.
I thank God and the Holy Spirit everyday for sending Tom into my life.  Tom saved my life, saved my life's work from the garbage, and encouraged me to quit my job and follow my dreams.
I owe him everything and love him more than I've ever loved anyone in my life.

What I've been doing?

I'm publishing (and legally protecting) a number of Creative Writing Projects that up until now, sat gathering dust or mold in boxes stored in three different cities.

I started recollecting my writings, box by box, city by city with the help of my loving husband, Tom in 2007.  Most of my past writings have been recovered but some are being held hostage by an abusive ex-boyfriend in San Francisco. I had to seek legal help to recover these missing works.

However, on a positive note, I recovered several copies of my first novel entitled, "Palimpsest" written in 1984 to fulfill a college writing requirement. Palimpsest is protected by copyright laws with the Library of Congress.

My heart jumped with joy when I found the original copy of my second novel entitled, "Mars Bonfire: An American Sadhu" written in 1994 about the true life story of my ex-husband, Craig George Michael Evers.

I adapted my second novel "Mars Bonfire" into my first screenplay after a P-R colleague and friend named Rachelle told me about Project Greenlight,, a script writing contest hosted by actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. I wrote my first screenplay in a few days, submitted it to the contest and surprisingly I placed high among contestants and received excellent reviews.  However, Project Greenlight producers noted two major drawbacks in my first script. One, the film would cost more than $1 million dollars to produce and that's all the money they had for a budget; and two, they didn't like the "to be continued" ending.

I never considered winning the Project Greenlight contest and only entered as an experiment into screenwriting with an arbitrary deadline. And Rachelle gave me a free download of "Movie Magic Screenwriter" which cost about $250 back then.

While Rachelle did not finish her screenplay by the October 2002 deadline, I did. I wrote following the novel's storyline and when I reached 110-pages in the script, I stopped, and wrote "to be continued" because I'd only covered about half the novel.

I see Mars Bonfire as a two-film sequel or a television series which could be produced as a dramatic action feature or as an animation.

In 2007, I started writing short stories entitled, "Travels with Ray."  These stories chronicle road trips and enlightening experiences shared with my loyal and fiesty Pug dog, Ray.

I have 14 stories that I envision being produced as an animated television series or a feature-length animated film for children.

In August 2006, I began writing a story entitled, "White Roots: An American Family," after finding pages from my mother's long-lost manuscript at the bottom of an old "junk" box at my brother's Las Vegas home.

This work evolved into a trilogy format which chronicles the lives my European ancestors and their arduous journey to the New World in 1743.  White Roots is a semi-autobiographical story tracing the history of the United States from its earliest days into the 21st century.

A treatment is offered here on the Script Page.  Some chapters from my mother pages were rewritten, expanded and published on a military history website, Footnote.com. Click the link below:

Then last spring, destiny intervened when an A-List  Hollywood producer, who will remain anonymous at this time, called me "out of the blue"  responding to my newspaper article about a "celebrity bad boy" who single-handedly destroyed a local charity.

The Scars To Freedom charity wanted to help wounded combat veterans by providing FREE scar treatments, remediation and plastic surgeries in Palm Desert, California.

Turned out the charity's "bad boy" was the same "bad boy" that ripped off and sued  this Hollywood A-List Producer. We share a common enemy and  instantly bonded together, joining forces to fight back. Since last March, I have worked with attorneys and A-List assistants to help expose this "bad boy" so he can't hurt anymore celebrities or ransack anymore charities.

My A-List Producer felt terrible about what happened to my favorite charity and pledged $10,000, and said he'd help produce next year's big fundraising event.

What first appeared as a disaster for the charity had turned into a blessing and a major turning point in my writing career.

By July 2009, I had resigned from my job as Editor-in-Chief  of two weekly newspapers and refocused back to my lifelong dream of writing award-winning scripts.

For 25 years, I dedicated myself to a career in Journalism but always knew my end goal was writing for television and films. After my near-death experience in 2008, and that fateful phone call in March 2009, I decided to refocus my energy to make my dream come true.

I quit my job, moved back to the beach and plunged into reformatting my stories into scripts using the industry standard Final Draft program.

"Everything happens for a reason" and the near death experience made me realize that every day was precious. i didn't have time to waste anymore.  If I had died, then my dreams and life's work would have died too.

I decided to resurrect my dream of writing good stories with moral messages that would remain significant through time.

I built this website to serve as a platform and venue for publishing and marketing my stories. I look forward to your comments and criticisms, and I welcome all serious investors.

Love and Light,

Jackie Gladfelter Devereaux
